Are you the hunter or the hunted?
I love the feeling of ticking off every item on my to-do list.
You too?
There’s nothing better than getting to the end of the day and knowing I’ve achieved everything I set out to!
On the days this happens, I know that I’ve been really good at managing my time.
I will have blocked out time to get certain tasks done and I would have had little to no distractions.
Other days, I come upstairs to top up my water bottle (I work from home in our studio downstairs) and I’m hijacked!
And when I say hijacked, I mean that in the most beautiful way, because it’s my kids who are doing the hijacking!
They are so excited to see me that they want to play with me straight away, and often, anything I originally had planned goes out the window.
So I definitely choose my timing wisely and only head upstairs when I know I’m able to be present for my kids.
I’m getting better at managing my time, but it always remains a work in progress.
I’m getting better at doing the “hunting,” rather than being the hunted.
I’m getting better at running the day, and not letting the day run me.
Here’s a few strategies that help me:
Finding a reason, rather than an excuse
It was 5:30am.
It was dark.
It was pouring with rain.
I dragged myself out of bed and walked the hallway to my daughters’ room, where my kids and wife were nestled, peacefully.
“What are we going to do?” I asked my wife.
It was the morning of the Bridge to Brisbane, and we were entered to run/walk.
The kids were coming with us, too.
As much as I wanted to go along, I didn’t think it would be wise to take the kids into the rain.
But I’d promised some friends I’d participate this year, too!
What to do?
Well, we made the decision to go – I thought if the rain got really bad, we could always come home – and I’m so glad we did!

It was a great morning, and so good for the kids to be involved in such a great event.
Plus, I felt good that I followed through on my word.
So, as tricky as the decision was initially, we were able to move past our excuses and find some motivating reasons to get up and get moving.
A pretty valuable skill to have in life, right?
That’s what this week’s Transformation Tip is all about!
Help! I’m so sore!
“Luke, I’m so sore. I don’t think I can train today.”
“Why am I so sore? I think I’ve injured myself!”
These are just some of the comments I’ve heard from my clients in the days after their workouts recently, and I can totally relate to how they’re feeling.
I can often feel the effects of my workout long after the session is finished, too!

Don’t worry though; the pain can be explained.
It’s all caused by Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).
If you’ve ever wondered why it happens, or what you can do to ease it, then this week’s Transformation Tip is worth the watch!
How can I help my partner get fit?
We chatted a few weeks ago about priorities, and how I’ve learnt what’s most important to me over the years.
We all have different priorities in ilfe, and what’s important for one person might not necessarily be that important to another.
So what happens when you’re sharing your life with someone who doesn’t really value the same things you do?
What happens if:
- You love spending the weekend with your extended family, but your partner wants you all to themselves?
- You love staying home, but your partner is an outdoors person?
- You love reading books, but your partner prefers to watch Netflix instead?
Well, you talk it over and you work out a compromise, don’t you?

The same goes for food and exercise related differences.
If you’re struggling to help your partner understand your healthy way of life, or if you’re finding it challenging to fit in workouts/food prep into your schedule as a couple, then this week’s Transformation Tip is for you!
Rach and I share some simple things we do to ensure we’re both getting what we need to get done each week in order for us both to be fulfilled and happy!
I’m stressed out!
Stress.
It’s an inevitable part of life.
We’re all busy, and we all have many different aspects of our lives to give attention to, and sometimes, that can become all too much.
Did you know that stress can majorly impede any results you might be looking for in terms of weight loss or a body transformation?
You may be exercising often, eating really well and sleeping like a log, but throw in some stress, and it can ruin everything.
Stress produces a hormone, called cortisol, which directly impacts on weight; it can cause weight gain.
This week’s Transformation Tip is all about stress – how to identify it, how to manage it and what to do when it becomes too much.
When my priorities weren’t in order…
Do you ever feel like you simply don’t have enough time to get everything done?
I’ve had times like this, when it doesn’t seem like there’s enough hours in a day.
But why is it that some people seem like they’re able to do it all?
Spend quality time with the kids, excel at work, have a thriving social life and a still have time to exercise, eat well and meditate.
How do they do it?

Well, whilst I’m definitely not perfect, I can honestly say that I have more balance in my life these days.
I put it down to working out what’s most important to me, and how I really want to spend my days.
And it all came from an unpleasant experience with my daughter, Bella, when she was just months old.
In this week’s Transformation Tip, I share what this experience was, and Rach and I discuss how we get our priorities in order and then put it into practice!
Dangling from a rock – what it taught me

How we plan our weekly food shop
Do you ever find yourself aimlessly wandering the aisles at your local grocery store?
Do you often get home and unpack your shopping and you realise you’ve forgotten to buy half the stuff you actually needed?
And on the flipside, you’ve brought home a whole bunch of stuff that you really didn’t need and that isn’t going to help you reach your health and fitness goals?
I’ve been there.
So this week, we wanted to share a few tips about the humble grocery shop.
We cover:
- The aisles to go down and the ones that should be avoided
- What to have on your shopping list
- How we structure our main meals
- How we always remember exactly what we need and avoid excess
What motivates you?
I’ve worked with hundreds of clients over the past 8 years in the fitness industry.
One thing is very clear to me – everybody is motivated differently!
Some people are driven by a weight loss goal.
Other people prefer to work towards an event, such as a fun run or a wedding.
And others have a sporting related goal.

In order to stay on track, we need to know what we’re working towards and we need to understand how we’re wired.
If you’re training for the wrong thing, chances are your results will be disappointing.
You won’t be focused or excited about the process, and your end game will reflect that.
So, have you ever stopped to think about what REALLY motivates you?
