How to get out of bed on those cold winter mornings!
It’s so good getting your exercise done first thing in the morning.
You can get in to your work day, knowing that you’ve taken time to move your body – because let’s face it, sometimes our days don’t go as planned and working out later in the afternoon/evening doesn’t always eventuate.
So yes, it’s great to workout in the morning.
But it’s not so fun when it’s the middle of winter (and you’re comfortable and warm under your doona when the alarm goes off at 5:30am!)

Winter can be challenging for people trying to get fit, lose weight and stay healthy.
So this week in our Transformation Tip, we chatted about 3 ways to make those chilly mornings that little bit easier!
What’s the best exercise program for me?
I get a lot of questions about exercise.
“What’s the best exercise for me to do?”
“How often should I train?”
“How long should my workouts be?”
All great questions, and all very important aspects of working out.
They’re all irrelevant though, unless it’s something you can stick to – for life!
Rach and I elaborate on this question – “what’s the best exercise program for me?” – in this week’s Transformation Tip!
Frozen vs fresh – which is best?
I don’t know about you, but I’m all for saving time when I’m cooking.
As much as I enjoy being in the kitchen, between work, family time, footy and everything else, it doesn’t leave a lot of time for making meals.
One of the ways we save time is to use frozen veggies in our cooking.
But hang on…. Isn’t fresh always better than frozen?
This week’s video answers this very question – and the answer may surprise you!
Bella’s bowling lesson
On Mother’s Day, we went to New Farm Park as a family, and had a picnic and a game of cricket.
It was a cracking day!
Now, if you’ve been watching my videos for a while, you’d know how much my kids teach me.
And this particular Sunday was no different!

Here’s what happened…
In the week before Mother’s Day, I had been listening to a Wayne Dyer podcast, and he talked about how he used praise to address his kids behaviours.
If they did something great, give them praise!
If they were learning and practicing a new skill, give them praise!
If they were doing something less than ideal, focus on what they were doing well instead – give them praise for that!
And he spoke about the power of doing that consistently.
So, I decided to apply this new information to our game of cricket on Sunday, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I watched Bella transform before my very eyes!
And it got me thinking…
I’m injured – how can I stay on top of my weight?
We all know how important exercise is for keeping fit, healthy and in shape, so what are we meant to do if we need to stop working out due to injury?
Is all of our progress going to stop?
I’ve just had thumb surgery and whilst I’ll be able to get back into exercise in a few weeks and do exercises that don’t involve the use of my left hand, right now I can’t do anything.
And if I focused on all the things I couldn’t do, I’d be feeling pretty down in the dumps.
Instead, I choose to focus on a few key areas that when executed correctly, will mean that I won’t notice much difference in my body shape during my recovery ahead.
I fully intend to get back to playing footy as soon as I’m able to!
So what areas do I need to be really precise with?
Watch this week’s video to find out!
When injury strikes
About 9 years ago, I broke the thumb on my right hand playing footy, and needed surgery to have a plate and screw put in to hold it together.
When I ran the ball up in my game on Saturday night just gone and was tackled by someone from the opposition, I felt the same sensation in my left hand.
I knew instantly that I’d broken my thumb.
Sure enough, an x-ray confirmed it, and while I was hopeful it was just a small break, the truth was that I needed to have surgery to repair it.
So I went under the knife on Tuesday night.

While I’m obviously really disappointed that I’ll be missing upto 12 weeks of the footy season, I know that things could be so much worse.
It’s just a thumb, after all!
When things like this happen, it’s really important to keep a bit of perspective.
We’re all going to have ups and downs in our journey, and we need to learn to love the ups, and grow stronger from the downs…
Now, because I was having surgery on Tuesday night, my wifey, Rach, took over the Transformation Tip duties for the week!
This week, she shares a timely reminder about what to focus on when things aren’t going your way.
P.S. A big thank you to everyone for all the well wishes this week! Your support has meant so much to me. Here’s to a speedy recovery!
Who’s your waterboy?
I’m not talking about the Adam Sandler movie, “The Waterboy!”
I’m talking about your very own personal waterboy.
I play rugby league, and we have 2 waterboys at every game.
They’re responsible (obviously) for running water out to the team.
But their role is so much more than that!
They give instructions from the coaches, they give us a kick up the butt when needed and they give us a pat on the back, too.
I love my waterboys!
So much so, that I believe we should all have a waterboy off the footy field, too.
We all need someone in our corner who is willing to give us feedback and be our shoulder to lean on, too.
We all need people in our lives who have our back.
Support from people we trust is so important, especially when we’re going through change or growth in our lives.
So, who’s your waterboy?
Noah fell down the stairs this week…
Yep, our cheeky little guy took a tumble down our back stairs this week.
He’s fine – it was only a few steps – but it gave us all a fright, that’s for sure!
I think Noah learnt some valuable lessons from his fall, but as always, he taught me just as much.

I really do learn so much from my kids.
Their ability to get on with life, regardless of what’s just happened, is something we can all take on board.
So often as adults we get caught up on making mistakes and then we carry those feelings into the next day, and the next day…
But not kids. They just get up and try again!
And that’s what Rach and I wanted to talk about this week.
Because we’re all going to make mistakes; they’re a fact of life.
But what we do after the mistake is the most important thing!
Burning out?
We hope you had an awesome Easter long weekend!
We just got back from 5 days away at the Gold Coast, and wow! I feel refreshed!

With so much happening with the business, footy and family life, it was so good to stop (and surf) for a few days.
We took some time to reflect on the first quarter of the year, and we set some new goals for the next quarter.
We spent lots of quality time together as a family and recharged the batteries.
My body and mind is feeling fresh and since we’ve been back, I’ve had a really productive week.
So this week’s video was inspired by our recent family holiday.
A little reminder about the importance of taking some time out, to prevent burn out and to reinvigorate yourself.
Go on, you deserve it!
