Luke’s Journey Week 5
Hey hey team,
I used to look at “pride” as something that was a “bad” thing. If you were proud of yourself, you were self-centred. I think it is a cultural thing. Now I view it in a completely different way. Being proud of yourself is the only way to become better, be it at sports or life in general.
You see, I used to have a very low self-esteem as a kid and I never thought I was good enough. This was mainly around football, as I was never a kid who made the rep squads and there were kids with a lot more natural ability than myself. I often thought that as I wasn’t as good as the other kids, that meant that I was not a good person. I know this is all a part of growing up; now I realise that I am not my sport or my career. I can be “not good” at something and still be a good person.
I know that I am a good person………. A great person. I’m very proud of it and I am also proud that having this appreciation for myself has changed my life in many ways. This week my wife went to my football team’s presentation night for me, as I was away in Melbourne. And at the presentation, I won an award for the professionalism and example that I set within the whole football club.
I think that’s something to be proud of!
