I was busting my guts.

Sweating profusely, gasping for air, feeling the burn in my legs.

I was running as hard as I possibly could.

“Welcome to pre-season training!” I thought to myself.

On Tuesday night, we did a fitness test at footy, and our strength and conditioning coach set us some standards.

And I wasn’t quite upto scratch.

Ouch.

Now usually, much more than the physical discomfort of trying to run 1.5km in under 5 minutes and 20 seconds, the disappointment of failing to achieve the standard would have hit home – hard.

But this year, something different happened.

This year, I didn’t spend time giving myself uppercuts for missing the mark.

This year, I did something different.

Because at the end of the day, beating yourself up for something that has happened is pointless!

There’s other productive ways to deal with a failure.

So if you struggle with being too hard on yourself, hopefully this weeks’ video will give you some simple ideas for overcoming your inner critic.
