I went to a Christmas party on Friday night, kid-free (yay for adult conversation)!nWhen you think of a Christmas party, you probably think of one thing – booze. And I sure as hell used to, as well! On Friday night, my hubby asked me and the other ladies I was chatting to whether we’d like a drink. After the other ladies ordered their bubbles and beer, I requested a lemon, lime and bitters. And one of the ladies asked with a puzzled look on her face, “Any reason you’re not drinking?” Image credit: www.thedrinksbusiness.comnI sort of felt like I had to justify myself. Ever since having kids, my urge to drink has subsided and I can honestly say I would have had maybe 2-3 drinks since I became pregnant with Bella in July 2013. There’s a few reasons for this:n1. I’ve been breastfeeding that entire time, so it’s just easier not to drink than to try and work out when the alcohol will be out of my system for the next feed! 2. I’ve also been sleep deprived since then, so one glass of wine renders me sleepy! 3. I just don’t feel like I want to or need to drink alcohol in order to have a good time. Plus, I love not being hungover; I want to get the most from my days. I realise that not everyone thinks like me, and that I’m definitely in the minority – especially at this time of year. And that’s absolutely fine. If you feel like drinking, enjoy it! Go for it, I say. But I also want to say to anyone else who may be feeling the pressure (as I did on Friday night), that it’s ok not to drink. It’s ok to be a little bit different. And it’s absolutely possible to still have a great time without alcohol. Just do you – be you, stay true to what you want, whether it be going sober, getting smashed or somewhere in between! Only you can decide what’s best for you, and you shouldn’t feel like you have to justify your decisions…nAt any time of year!
