Transformation Tip: Ice Ice Baby!
Welcome to our new weekly blog – Transformation Tip of the Week!
Each week, I’ll be sharing a useful tip that you can implement straight away into your current lifestyle, that will have a dramatic impact on the way you look, function and feel.
This week, it’s all about I.C.E.
What is I.C.E?
I.C.E = Intense Cardio Exercise.
It’s a key component of any weight loss (fat loss) program, and do it right and you can see some phenomenal results!
Watch the video for a key tip to making I.C.E Training effective and work for you.
My drug use
Every night, I sit in bed and write in my journal.
I write down various things, such as what I’m grateful for, what the highlight of my day was and what I learnt that day.
Usually, I take a few minutes to do this, and then I fall asleep pretty quickly!
But a few nights ago, I had a very different experience.
As I was writing, I had a realisation that moved me to tears….
It was a moment of celebration in overcoming my addiction, but also a moment of sadness, when I was reflecting on my history of drug use.
I started using drugs when I was just 12 years of age, and having a daughter of my own now, my heart breaks for that young, innocent boy who simply didn’t know any better.
I wanted to chat about it in my video this week, because for me, writing down a few words in my journal made me think about my past in a whole new way, and maybe, just maybe, someone out there will be able to relate.
So here it is…
Thanks for watching and if this has resonated with you in any way, I’d love to hear from you – luke@mpstudio.com.au
I f%$&ed up
Yep, I f%$&ed up.
Just last week, my video was all about being able to find balance in life, and this week, I’ve had one of the most out of balance weeks that I can remember.
I scheduled too much work – I just had too much on – and as result, I haven’t spent time with my family or made time for myself.
You’ll also notice that this email is about 12 hours later than what it normally is… So yep, I’m a bit behind!
I pride myself on walking my talk, so that fact that I’ve let myself down, just 1 week after broadcasting my advice on balance to the world, hurts a little bit.
But I am human.
So in this week’s video, I reflect on the week that was and where I went wrong – and what I intend to do about it.

I have no balance in my life!
Sound familiar? Balance is a word that gets thrown around a lot these days. But while it may be a common term, balance has a different meaning for everyone. Work, health, relationships, family, social life – we all place importance on different aspects of our lives at different times, and sometimes it can be hard to know what you should prioritise first. For example, I know there are times that I have a mental argument with myself because I feel like I’m working too much and should be spending more time with my family. When people come to see me at the studio, often their health has taken a back seat for a certain period of time, and they’d like to get more “in balance” again to see some different results in their health, body shape, energy levels, etc. And that’s just the beginning of the journey! The road to achieving our ideal body is never a smooth one, and we all have various life commitments pulling us in all sorts of directions on a daily basis. This seems to be a common struggle with some of my clients at the moment, so I wanted to do a quick video on some ways to restore whatever your version of balance is in your life. Let me introduce you
I don’t have all the answers.
Never have and never will.
So this week, when I was asked about a particular foot condition – plantar fasciitis – I knew I wasn’t the best person to answer the question.
I may not have had the answer, but I knew straight away where to find it!
Let me introduce you to a guy name Kelly.
Kelly Starrett is my go-to person for all things mobility and physical therapy.
He’s a wealth of knowledge about the human body and I’ve personally benefited a lot from his teachings.
This week, I wanted to share a video from Kelly, that focuses on managing foot pain, in particular plantar fasciitis. If you experience pain on the underside of your foot and heel, as so many people do, then this video is definitely worth the watch.
How can I control my drinking?
Imagine that you’ve just got home from a long day at work.
You have the house to yourself and you want nothing more than to sit back, relax and have a few glasses of wine.
So you do.
You have some dinner, along with a few more glasses, then settle into the couch in front of the tv – and have a few more drinks.
You repeat this routine throughout the week.
Week after week.
Month after month.
And you begin to question yourself, “Am I still in control here?”
It can be hard to know…..
This week, I received an email from one of our subscribers on this very topic:
“I have a serious problem with alcohol. I have tried to give it up, or even cut down… I would like to cut down dramatically and not drink everyday – just socially with friends – not every night at home by myself.”
I know what it feels like to have a substance control you. My substance of choice was marijuana.
I would function well throughout the day, but as soon as I got home, I would start smoking it straight away.
Every. Single. Day.
I haven’t had this same experience with alcohol, however, so I wanted to bring in an expert on the topic – my good friend, Chris Merlo.
Chris came into my studio many years ago, with a serious drinking addiction.
Today, he’s been sober for 3.5 years and now helps others to manage their drinking habits.
(This was his amazing physical transformation – click the picture to read more.)

In this week’s video, Chris shares some of the strategies and mindset shifts that helped him change his life for the better.
And if you struggle with substance use, I sincerely hope that his initial advice can help you in some way.
(And please, if you feel like you need help with managing your substance use, seek a professional’s help. Chris and I have both done this in the past, and it’s helped us greatly).

Just 1 thing
Our question this week came from one of our awesome clients, Juls, and it’s one that I’m sure many people will relate to – especially in winter!
“I really want to come to the sessions, but I’m struggling to get up in the morning!”
I chatted a few weeks ago about motivation, and some simple things you can do to get moving on your own.
But there’s one aspect of motivation, that is incredibly powerful, that I want to focus on today.
If you do just do this one thing, your ability to get up and get moving will improve dramatically – I promise!
So, get ready to share your goals and the actions you’re going to take with the people in your life who will support you and encourage you! You’ll be much more likely to turn up to a session if you’ve let other people know you’re going to be there.

How to burn 3 times more fat in your workouts
If I told you that you could burn 3 x more fat in one workout, by doing LESS, would you believe me?
Is it possible that in only 20-30 minutes, a few times a week, you can achieve your body shape, health and fitness goals?
Well, that’s EXACTLY what I’m telling you!
There’s a common misconception that in order to get fit and burn fat you need to increase the amount of time you workout for. For example, you go for a 40 minute run one week, then next week you dial it up to 45 minutes, etc.
However, there’s a much more time efficient way to go about it and it will see your results skyrocket!
Let me introduce you to a little principle we call I.C.E…
Watch the video to learn more about it and how to achieve 3 times better results!

How I gave up smoking
Many people are surprised to hear that I was once a smoker.
Initially, I was a very heavy user of marijuana.
And then, once I gave up marijuana, I turned to cigarettes.
I simply replaced one addiction with another.
And it can often happen when people give up cigarettes, too.
I’ve heard of many people turning to food to replace their smoking habit – it’s incredibly common.
But at the end of the day, whether it’s cigarettes, recreational drugs, exercise or food you’re addicted to, it’s just a habit that can be broken.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot easier said than done – but it can be done!
This week’s video is for anyone who’s trying to kick their smoking habit – I hope these few tips help you in the same way they helped me give up smoking.
Here’s the “Habits” series of videos that I mentioned in the video:

Habits video 2
Habits video 3
